林奇的朋友只好立即用手機撥打911報警，由於林奇身上血流如注，為了防止她失血過多，她的兩個朋友用4隻手拿著襯衫緊緊按在她身上的多處傷口上。一艘救援船在20分鐘後趕來，迅速將林奇送往醫院進行搶救。醫生檢查發現，林奇的身上被鯊魚利齒咬出了17處月牙形的傷口，醫生稱，儘管鯊魚的牙齒咬到了林奇的肋骨處，但幸運的是，鯊魚的牙齒卻錯過了她體內的所有重要器官。醫生通過3小時的手術，在她身上縫了至少100針，才終於縫合完她身上的所有傷口。 J

據悉，這是薩拉索塔灣今年發生的第二起鯊魚襲人事件，和澳大利亞海岸和南非海岸相比，美國佛羅裏達州的鯊魚襲人事件並不多見。從1882年到2006年的120多年中，佛羅裏達州共發生過545起鯊魚襲人事件，其中只有13人喪生鯊口。據邁阿密市鯊魚專家喬治·布吉斯稱，[b][u]夜晚到海灣游泳絕對是個糟糕的主意，布吉斯說：“在夜晚游泳經常會引發鯊魚的攻擊。”_-4E
