you have misread my reply
quote: some people ARE NEEDED to work in the night-shift however, today too many people work UNNECESSARILY in such mode
i was talking about "unncessary convenience" that some people look for, which contributes to the emergence of more and more night-shift work.
doctors and firefighters are good examples of those people who ARE NEEDED to work in night-shift sometimes.
about terrorism, i would recommend you to read the book "The Compassionate Revolution" "the root of the problems" doesn't refer to "history". think about what has mighty nations done upon the conflicts for benefits... only the eradication of exploitation would work any anti-terrorism campaign is just like applying antibiotics that can never make someone healthy, and will increase bacterial resistance...
something more about "free will" and "selection" even if a doctor quit their hospital jobs, they shouldn't be blamed doctor is an especially good example! should one work to die for to be awarded social approval? i think doctors’ workload is “UNNECESSARILY” too heavy! In hk, doctors have to be on duty for consecutive 30hours… there are lots of unnecessary work because of insensible administration and so-called insufficient resources… why are there so many unnecessary things? greed, indifference and unwiseness… people are unconscious of their own behaviours they are isolated from nature and have minds badly contaminated by consumerism to solve problems at the root is that everyone fulfill one’s own duty, such as taking good care of one’s own health, so that one would not be the burden of others besides, one should not “look for to much out of greed” less energy and resources would be wasted for irresponsible people
one more point, the comment on "身不由己", free will and selection is about consideration of material and life style. for those who have to foster a large family, or with other difficulties are out of the context as everyone shold be responsible for hiself/ herself, difficulties mentioned just above should not be justification of "身不由己" in the long run.

身不由己 -- if doctors are selfish (free will?? selection??), they would quit their hospital jobs and open their own practice. Then who will be there in the hospital when patients need them at night?? at the ER??
You can't schedule your illness to be confined to 9 to 5 work hours. Likewise, babies don't negotiate with their mothers when they should be born.
身不由己 -- firefighters too. You don't schedule fire and accidents to only happen in daytime.
The conflicts and terrorism date back to many many years ago (between Jews (Isreal) and Muslim). I am not sure if anyone knows how to solve the root of the problems.
Whoever can solve these problems deserves a Nobel Peace prize.

i think you have points in your comments but why don't you think about the root of the problems
i don't agree to many things in modern life for many people, "convenience" is an advancement for me, that's degradation
some people are needed to work in the night-shift however, today too many people work unnecessarily in such mode e.g. there're lots of 24 hours convenience stores in hk but people in Europe can survive with shops close by evening
i feel sad about the inhumanity and madness of modern life...
about 911... i don't think defence would really work... better get the remedy at the root of the problems...
actually, one can always choose one's own life-style, only when one is willing to let one's present state change
"身不由己" many gangsters say so too, while people with decent occupation can hardly understand them well, it's just a matter of free will and selection
