據悉，這是薩拉索塔灣今年發生的第二起鯊魚襲人事件，和澳大利亞海岸和南非海岸相比，美國佛羅裏達州的鯊魚襲人事件並不多見。從1882年到2006年的120多年中，佛羅裏達州共發生過545起鯊魚襲人事件，其中只有13人喪生鯊口。據邁阿密市鯊魚專家喬治·布吉斯稱，[b][u]夜晚到海灣游泳絕對是個糟糕的主意，布吉斯說：“在夜晚游泳經常會引發鯊魚的攻擊。”I)_
